Australian War Widows (Queensland)

Community Service Officer

AUSTRALIAN WAR WIDOWS (QUEENSLAND) COMMUNITY SERVICES OFFICER

The Australian War Widows provides many benefits to members, including the services of a Community Services Officer. (CSO)

The CSO’s role is to inform members and their families of services available in the community and how to access such services as they relate to their current circumstances.

The CSO will discuss, either by phone or by visiting the home (if in the Brisbane area) any matters or concerns the members have and offer appropriate advice and, if required, make the necessary referral/s on behalf of the member. Once the referral has been made the CSO will follow up to ensure the most suitable and preferred outcome has been achieved. The CSO’s role is one of ongoing ‘case management’ - it may be a ‘one off’ referral or ongoing involvement for as long as is needed. No matter is too big or small to discuss as the CSO’s role is solely to assist Guild members. Please do not hesitate to take advantage of this valuable service we offer.

The following is an example of some of the referrals that have been made on behalf of members:

  • Occupational Therapy Assessments for aids/equipment
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Podiatry
  • Domestic Assistance
  • Aged Care Assessment/Community Aged Care Package
  • Transport Options
  • Discharge Planning
  • Incontinence products
  • Physiotherapy
  • Shopping Assistance
